LUZ SAGRADA

In our Interdisciplinary Project Lab, our first project was to design and create a lampshade made with paper. I’ve never considered paper as a sculptural material. In this project I got to experiment with manipulating material and lighting. I decided to base my lampshade on La Sagrada Familia, a basilica in Spain. This basilica is most known for its impeccable lighting and shadows which create a grand ambiance throughout the entire building. Thus, I wanted to conduct an architectural study and experiment with inverting this lighting experience onto the exterior of the building. Through the connection of individual elements, I built this model. Additionally, I added a separate component to the bottom of the lampshade to cast more intricate shadows onto the board and create more emphasis on the continuous verticals throughout the design.
